DRAGONFLIGHT
The first
Dragonriders of Pern Book
Author -Anne McCaffrey
Age Range - 10 to Adults
Type of Book - Scifi Fantasy
To the lords who live in Ruatha Hold, Lessa is nothing but a useless and filthy kitchen servant. She has lived these last ten long Turns planning the revenge against those who killed her family and took her home. Now the time is right for her to fulfill her plan and take back her stolen birthright. Everything changes when she meets F’lar and the demanding dragon queen.
The dragon riders are looking for candidates for a weyrwoman to raise the dragon queen, and Lessa is the perfect fit. But they have to catch her first.
I loved DragonFlight because it is packed full of action and adventure from the very beginning. It also has a touch of romance. It expresses the feelings and thoughts of the characters and the mystery behind them. I love that the two main characters both love each other but try to stay separated to not show their feelings for the other. The rebellious Holds and unbelieving people make the story all the better. The companionship between dragon and rider is very humorous, and I love the way some of the dragons talk to their riders.
I recommend this book to those who love scifi/fantsy, adventure, and just a little bit of everything else.

Dealing with Dragons
Book one of the Enchanted Forest Chronicles
Author - by Patricia C. Wrede
Age Range - 10 to Adults
Type of Book - Scifi Fantasy
Princess Cimorene is a princess who refuses to be proper. Why would she want to be proper if that means having to learn dancing, embroidery, drawing, and etiquette? She wanted to learn to fight and do magic, and go on adventures. So Cimorene did just that. She ran away from home to live with a dragon. That’s where the adventure really begins. Meeting a nice witch, a bottled up jinn, a death-dealing talking bird, and some very nasty magic-stealing wizards are just the beginning.
I give Wrede five stars for putting humor, adventure, and just a bit of romance all in one book. The book is full of great characters, like a helpful witch who has a ton of back-talking, and very sneaky cats (none the traditional black color), and misunderstood dragons that sneeze every time a wizard is near. Dealing with Dragons even has eye catching chapter titles like “In Which Cimorene Refuses to Be Proper and Has a Conversation with a Frog”. I never wanted to put this book down and couldn’t wait to turn the page to see what happens next.

The Warriors Saga
Author - Erin Hunter, Avon Books, 2004 - present
Age Range - 10 - 17 years old.
Warriors Saga is about an every-day house cat named Rusty, except for one thing, he always dreamed of going to the wild. There was a forest right behind the fence in his yard and he always dreamed about hopping over it. One day, while chasing a mouse, the mouse climbed up the fence and over, and Rusty followed it. While stocking the mouse he a runs into a wild cat. He fights the cat and almost wins until another wild cat stops them. The wild cats tell Rusty about five wild cat clans and asks for him to join his clan. And so begins the wild and adventurous Warriors Saga.
There are six books in the first Warriors Series and, so far, four books in the next series. The first series is about Rusty and his friends and the second series is about Rusty's and his friend's descendents.
I think this series of books is very good because it is adventurous and, at the same time, you can relate to the cats because they have a lot of expression and feelings. These cats are almost human. For example, at the beginning of the book, Rusty felt so rejected because all the cats were making fun of him, calling him a kitty pet and telling him he wasn't worthy of being in the clan until one of the cats tackles him and Rusty wins the fight. At that point he is mostly accepted by the clan, but still had to prove himself many times.
I would give this series of books five stars. Warning, if you read the first book, once you start reading you won't be able to stop. Written by Bacon |
