Bible Crafts and Games for Ruth and Naomi and Friends Stick Together Bible Theme
"Friends Stick Together" Stickers
What you will need:
Ink jet Photo Sticker Paper or Creative Station Crafting System
If you don't have sticker paper, you can just used rolled up pieces of tape or double-sided tape.
How to Make:
Before class print out the sticker sheets and cut the stickers apart.
After your lesson about Naomi and Ruth or a lesson about friends, let your children pick out some sticker they would like to share with their friends.
You can also use these stickers as rewards when you see a child treating another child in a friendly manner.

"Friends Stick Together" Folding Craft Stick Craft
The craft sticks are taped together so that when the craft sticks are pushed together from the sides they fan fold up into a compact stack of sticks for storage.
What you will need:
Woodsies Mini Jumbo Craft Sticks -4.5" 50/Pkg - Use good quality craft sticks that lay flat. The 5/8" work perfect with the one-inch tape. *You can use the Jumbo Craft Sticks
3M Scotch Masking Tape, 1-Inch - Other brands will work, but this tape works great! It is the exact color of the craft sticks. (Staple's Tape works better with the washable markers, but it is lighter than the stick and more transparent and doesn't cover the stick as well.)
Permanent Markers, Crayons, or Colored Pencils - (The washable markers don't work well because they smear.)
How to Make the Folding Craft Stick Canvas:
1. Cut the one-inch masking into 4-inch pieces.
2. Place two sticks together, side by side, and tape them together covering both the sticks with the tape.
3. Turn the two sticks over so that they are diagonal to you.
4. Place another craft stick next to and below the two sticks that you taped together. Use another piece of tape to tape the bottom two sticks together.
5. Turn all three sticks over diagonally and place another stick at the bottom of the row and tape the last two sticks together. Keep going until you have a whole row of sticks.
6. You can also cover the first and last stick in the row by placing tape over the stick and then folding it back over the stick. It is easier to write on the tape than the craft stick. The ink soaks into the sticks and blurs.
7. Draw the picture on the crafts sticks with a pencil and then paint the shapes with acrylic paint or use markers.
8. When the paint is dry use a marker to write the words.
If a child messes up while working on his canvas, you can pull off the tape where he messed up and replace it with new tape.

Naomi, Obed, Ruth, and Orpah Paper Doll or Stick Puppet Craft
Use Paper Dolls or Felt Figures to Present the Bible Story. In this lesson the teacher uses stick puppets to tell the story. Each puppet has a sad and happy side.
Print out the pattern on to card stock (heavy paper) and cut out Naomi and Obed.

Use a razor blade or Exacto knife to cut a slit above Naomi's arms and hands and below.
Cut the Obed paper doll around the hands and arms up to the chest.
In class have your children color the paper dolls. After your children have colored the paper dolls show them how to slip Obed in and out of Naomi's arms.

This craft comes with two different baby paper dolls: one wrapped in a blanket and the other wearing a diaper. The first pattern is easier to cut and insert in Naomi's arms, the second takes a little more cutting.

Gleaning Wheat or Other Grain Activity
Before class purchase wheat sheaves from your local craft store. Wet the wheat and let it sit on paper towels over night. If the sheaves are too dry, they are kind of prickly and sharp. If you can't find wheat sheaves, you can find millet still on the branch at a bird or pet store.
Tell your children that one of the women in the story gleaned some grain from a farmer's field. She had to pick up the grain that was leftover after the farmer had gathered his crop.
Then she had to separate the seed from the chaff, and then grind it into flour to make bread.
Show your children how to separate the seed from the chaff. You can have them glue some of the grains onto their Bible verse cards, or place some in a plastic bag to take home.
Make a "Friends Stick Together" Cat Craft
Children color the cat patterns, cut them out, fold them in half and glue on the heads.

Gleaning Bible Verse Review
1. Before class cut out grain shapes from construction paper or use the wheat grain patterns.

2. Write one word of the Bible verse on each grain shape. Leave half of the seed shapes blank.
3. In class place all the seed shapes on the floor face down. Tell the children that they are going to "glean" the Bible verse. Have them take turns picking up one of the grain shapes.
If it has a word on it, they will place it in a basket. If it doesn’t have a word on it, they will turn it back over and leave it on the floor. Tell them how many grain shapes they need to complete the verse. (Use a shortened form of the verse for younger children.)
4. When all the grain shapes have been collected, see if the children can put them in order to figure out the Bible verse.

"Stick Together" Relay
Preparation:
Before class blow up balloons and mark off a start line with painter's tape at one end of the room. Place a chair or chairs at the other end of the room.
How to Play:
1. In class divide your children up into teams of two.
2. Give each set of children a balloon.
3. Tell your children that they should try to get the balloon down to the other end of the room around a chair and back to the start line, without using their hands, arms, mouths, or feet except to pick up and place the balloon between them at the beginning of the game.
4. Tell your children that they can decide where they want to place the balloon, but they must do it as a team and remember to "Stick Together" just like Naomi and Ruth did in the Bible lesson. Children may want to place the balloon between their arms, on their hips, between their shoulders, etc.
5. If the balloon falls to the floor on their journey, they must pick it up, and return to the start line before continuing the race.

Make Sticky Rolls
Bring in the ingredients to make sticky rolls. Use dough that has already been prepared and risen once. Let your children help roll them out and add the sticky topping. Teach them this rhyme as you work. Let each children roll and work as long as it takes to say the rhyme once.

If you don't want to make sticky rolls, have your children roll around on floor and do actions to the rhyme. Have them stick together at the end of poem by sitting shoulder to shoulder. Rock side to side to see if they all stick together. They will all have to rock the same direction at the same time. Talk about friends sticking together like the rolls.
Friends Stick Together Rolls
Cut circles from brown construction paper. Show your children how to make swirls with glue and then sprinkle cinnamon on the raised glue swirls. Write their names on the rolls and have them place them in pan to stick together with their friend's rolls. Tape the pan or sticky rolls to the bulletin board with the saying, "Friends Stick Together".

Sorting Grain
Before class mix cotton balls and macaroni noodles together and place half the mixture in one bowl and the other half in another bowl. Divide the children up into two teams. Pick two children to be "Sticky Friends". Place masking tape or duct tape around the "Sticky Friends", sticky side out. Stick the end of the tape to the child then bend it back so the sticky side is out. Bring the tape all the way around the child and back over to the beginning of the tape so that the tape goes all the way around the child. Designate one "Sticky Friend" to be noodles and the other cotton.
The teams must stick and sort the cotton balls and noodles in their bowls to the correct "Sticky Friend". Each team member pick one cotton ball or noodle from the bowl, runs to the correct "Sticky Friend", stick it to the tape and then run back to the starting line. The first team to sort all their noodles and cotton balls wins. Talk about the lesson and how Ruth had to glean the grain and then separate the chaff from the seed in order to make flour.
