Sunday School Lesson about Hannah - God Answers Prayer
In this Sunday School lesson about Hannah, children
learn that when they have a problem they should pray about it.
God hears our prayers and sees our hurting. God knows what is
best for us and answers our prayers in his own time and in his
own way. We must learn to wait and trust God to carry out his
plans for our lives.
Have a Baby Shower
Children celebrate God's Answer to Hannah's prayer by having
a baby shower. They draw pictures of presents they would like
to give a baby and share their pictures with the class. They
play baby shower games, sing songs, and play a game to remind
them how God answers our prayers.
Color
or Make a Picture of Baby Samuel with Blocks
Children
can color this picture or cut out the blocks and arrange them
and Baby Samuel on another sheet of paper the way they would
like them to be.
Hannah
and Samuel Paper Dolls
Children cut out the paper dolls,
color them, and place Baby Samuel in Hannah's arms.
Poem
A
Special Baby for Hannah
Written by
Carolyn Warvel

Hannah wanted
a baby.
She thought that just maybe
if she would pray and pray and pray
she would get one right away.
She begged
and pleaded and cried
but no matter what she tried
there was no baby by her side.
She just wanted to run and hide.
Hannah had to wait and wait and wait
because God answers prayers at his own rate.
God had a very special baby
in mind for this very special lady.
This baby would be someone great
So Hannah had to wait and wait and wait.

Heart
A Heart
Like Jesus
What you
will need: Red, black, and white construction paper, scissors,
stapler.
How to make:
Cut 2 -
6" red hearts , 1 - 6" black heart, and
1 - 6" white heart from red construction.
Write Psalm
139:23-24 & Psalm 86:11-13 on pieces of paper and glue them
to the red hearts Assorted
scriptures from the Bible referring to the heart to glue on the
red hearts.
Write Galatians 5:22 "But the fruit of the spirit is love,
joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness,
and self-control." On a piece of paper and glue it to the
white heart.
Write Ephesians
4:30-31 & 1 Peter 2:1 on pieces of paper and glue them to
the black heart.
"Get rid of all bitterness, rage, anger, brawling, slander
along with every form of malice." "Therefore, rid yourselves
of all malice, of all deceit, hypocrisy, envy and slander of every
kind."
Layer the
hearts red, black, white, red to make a book or make a chain with
the hearts.
Show your children
a piece of white paper. Emphasize that it is white and pretty. Tear
the paper and tell them that this is kind of like what happens when
you are mean to someone or say something mean to them. Their heart
get damaged. We can tape it back together and still use it, but
the paper is now marred because of the tear and the scar can still
be seen or felt. We can say we are sorry but the damage is already
done and the scar or pain from the ugly things we say or do are
still in the heart of the person we said them to.
Moral: Be like
Jesus and never have to apologize for what you say or do. (Sent
in by Shelly)
Helping Hands
Created to Do Good Things (Helping Hands) Sunday School Lesson
This
is a Sunday School lesson about the Good Samaritan and how he used his hands
to do good things. Children learn that they were created to
do good things, and they can use their amazing hands to glorify
God by doing good things and praising him. Children can help
make a bulletin board display or make a "Remember hand",
role play, learn a new song, and much much more. Luke 10:30-37
Helping Hands Activity Sheet
Children pick, color, and glue the "good things" pictures to the picture of a child. This printable activity sheet is available to members of Danielle's Place.
Remember the Memory Verse Hand Picture
The following activity comes from the lesson "Helping Hands". You will find a complete lesson with more crafts and activity ideas on The Resource Room a members only section of Danielle's Place.
Explain to the children that sometimes when
someone wants to remember something important, they tie a string
on their finger to help them remember. We are going to write some things on the fingers of the hands we made that we need to remember to do this week. We will also tie a string on one of the fingers to remind us to do them.
What you will need: Colored paper, scissors, glue, and yarn.
How to make:
1. Before class print out and cut out hand shapes with the Bible verse. (A pattern for the this craft is available to members on The Resource Room.) You can also buy hand shapes from a learning store and have your children write the verse on the hand shape. Or you can have your children trace their hands, cut them out, and write the verse on the hand shape.
2. In class give each child a piece of paper and a hand. Help them glue the hand to the piece of paper by just putting glue on the palm area of the hand. Help your children come up with five different things they can do with their hands to be helpful. Write the ideas on the fingers. Curl down the fingers leaving the index finger sticking up. Tie a piece of yarn on to the pointer finger. Children can decorate the rest of the pictures anyway they would like. Tell your children to take their hands home to help them remember to do these things. They will get to place a hand on the bulletin board next week for each thing they remember to do during the week.

Good Samaritan Bear
Bring in dolls or Teddy bears and some cheap bandages. Or you can use the long Ace bandages that the children can wrap around and around the bear and not waste the sticky bandages. As the children work, talk to them about how God wants us to use our hands to do good things.
God Make Me Book
This printable book comes with the lesson "Created to do Good Things" and is one in a set of lessons about God creating us. Children make a book about themselves.
My Helping Hand Page - Children trace their handprints.
Good Things I Can Do With My Hands Page - The teacher helps children fill out a chart that shows what they can do with their hands, and children draw pictures illustrating what they can do.
Play a Guessing Game and Review the Story
The following activity comes from the lesson "Helping Hands". You will find a complete lesson with more crafts and activity ideas on The Resource Room a members only section of Danielle's Place.
Tell
your children, "Our hands are amazing. They can do so many
wonderful, good things. And they can also be used to do bad
things. I am going to show you some things I can do with my
hands and I want you to see if you can tell me what I am doing
and how it can be used for good things or for bad things.
1. OK Sign - This is telling someone that they did something
good. It can be used for good because it would make a
person feel good about himself.
2. Twiddling your Thumbs - You twiddle your thumbs when
you are bored. It would not be a good thing to do when someone
is talking to you because it shows that you don't care about
what they are saying.
3. Waving - When you wave you are saying good-bye, or hello,
or come here. This is a good thing because you are telling the
person you will miss them, or you are glad to see them, or you
would like to talk to them.
4. Praying - Praying for others is a good thing. It shows
you care about them.
5. Praising God by Raising Our Hands - This is a good thing.
It shows that you want to be close to God, that you want him
to be in control of your life.
6. Make a Fist - This could be bad because you are warning
someone that you want to fight. It could also be good if you
want to play a guessing game with someone to see if they can
guess what is in your fist.
7. Pointing - Pointing at something to show someone you
see something can be good, but pointing in someone's face is
not very nice.
8. I Love You - (The thumb, forefinger, and pinky are up,
the other fingers are down.) This means I love you. This is
a good thing to tell someone.
9. Pounding Your Fist - Shows that you are mad. This is
not a good thing, you should find another way of expressing
your anger.
10. Clapping - Clapping shows that you like something.
It's a good thing.
11. Thumbs Up Sign and Thumbs Down Sign - These are use
to say yes and no.
12. Others: shaking hands, holding hands, high five, making
a number one sign, sign to be quiet, I can't hear you sign,
and stop.

Hands for God
Written
by Nancy Foss
(Sing to the tune "A Hunting We Will Go".)
Use your hands for God.
Use your hands for God.
We'll show our Love and care for you
By using our hands for God.
Use your hands to pray.
Use your hands to pray.
Asking God to heal us
By using our hands to pray.
Keep your hands quiet.
Keep your hands quiet.
Knowing when to stop your hands
Is knowing the word of God.

Do Your Hands Do Right?
Written
by Nancy Foss
(Tune to "Do Your Ears Hang Low" or "Turkey in the Straw".)
Do your hands do right?
Do you hug and not fight?
Can you pray and not stray from the Lord today?
Can you clap them on your knees and promise not to tease?
Do your hands do right?

Honor
Friends Honor Each Other Sunday School Lesson
In this lesson children learn what it means to honor
someone. They learn how to honor their friends; and that Jesus
showed honor to us by giving us the most priceless gift of all,
his life.
The
following crafts and activities come from the lesson "Sunday School Lesson Friends Honor Each Other". A complete lessons with more crafts and activities is available on The
Resource Room, a
subscription site.
Have a Quilting Bee
At the turn of the century friends honored each other by spending time with each other and helping them make a quilt. Tell the children that they are going to have a quilting bee. Each child will make at least one quilt square to add to the quilt. Staple the completed squares in rows touching each other to make a large paper quilt. See for directions and a pattern.
If you don't have material, you can have older children make paper quilts. Print out the paper patterns onto white paper and make copies. Have your children pick one of the five patterns to color with markers or colored pencils. When they are done staple the squares to your bulletin board to make a large quilt.

Serve One Another Cats
A pattern for this craft is available to members.
Wash Each Other's Feet
Explain to the children that
back in Jesus' time most people had to walk to wherever they wanted
to go. They wore sandals so their feet got very dirty. When
visitors arrived at someone's house the servants would wash
their feet. If someone wanted to show honor to someone, like Mary
did in our story, they would take the job of the servant and wash
the visitor's feet. Tell the children that we don't do this today,
but there are many other ways we can honor each other. Pass
out towels and split the children up into twos. Have them
wash each other's feet in a bowl of water.

Serve One Another in Love Relay Race
Divide your children up into two or more teams. Give each child a Styrofoam tray. Place a plastic cup, bowl, spoon, and fork on the trays of the children that are first in line. The children must carry the trays with all the things on them to one end of the room and back with out dropping anything. If they drop something, they must go back and pick it up. Then they place all the items from their tray onto the next child's tray. Keep playing this way until one team wins. If you have older children, you can have them say the verse while they are "serving" the next child in line. If any of the children get pushy or mad because another team member isn't fast enough or makes a mistake, remind the children that the verse says, "Serve one another in LOVE.

Serving in Love at Snack Time
Bring in about five different types of snacks. Make sure they are small such as: Mini chocolate chip cookies, Oreo cookies, Teddy Grahams, bit size candy bars, etc. Place them all in a separate bowl on a table. Tell your children that they are going to practice "serving each other in love". Have the children take turns serving the child to his or her right. Each child will ask the child to his right what he would like to have. (Tell the children that they can have any combination of the five things on the table.) The child will then go and get the order for the child and bring it back to him. The child that has just been served will then ask the child on his right what he would like. Keep going until all the children have been served. Remind your children to say, "thank you" and to ask politely what each child would like to have.
