Tissue Paper Poppies

What you will need:

Red Tissue Paper

Green Tissue Paper

Black Construction Paper

Green Chenille Stems

Black Chenille Stems

Elmer's No-Wrinkle Rubber Cement



How to Make The Tissue Paper Poppy Flowers:

paper flower craft diagaram1. For each flower cut two flower shapes with five petals from red tissue paper. Make one flower shape 80% smaller than the first. (Patterns for the flowers are available to members.)

2. Wrinkle up the flower shapes and then smooth them out a little.

3. Fold the end of a green Chenille stem down about 1/2", and then fold it down two more times.

4. Cut 1 1/2" circles from construction paper, punch a hole in the center of the circle, and a slit from the outside of the circle to the center circle. Glue the circle into a slight cone shape.

5. Punch a hole in the center of smallest tissue paper flower shape with the unfolded end of the Chenille stem. Push the flower shape up the stem to the folded end.

6. Punch a hole in the center of largest tissue paper flower shape with the unfolded end of the Chenille stem. Push the flower shape up the stem to the folded end.

7. Place the cone shape on the unfolded end of Chenille stem through the inside of the cone. Push the cone shape up to almost the top of the folded end of the Chenille. Place a little glue inside the cone and press it up against the tissue paper flowers.

Pipe Cleaner Flower Pin Craft

Pipe cleaner flower pin craftWhat you will need:

Two Pipe Cleaners - (Chenille Stems) - One green for the stem and other any color you prefer

Low Temperature Glue Gun

Pin Back


How To Make Pipe Cleaner Flower Pin:

1. To make the stem and leaves make a loop at one end of the pipe cleaner and attach it by winding the end of the pipe cleaner around the pipe cleaner about 3 inches from the end.

2. Make another loop about the same size and wind it around the stem at the same place you did the first one. The rest of the pipe cleaner forms the stem.

3. Now attach the end of the second pipe cleaner to the top of the flower stem by winding the ends around each other.

4. Bend the second pipe cleaner around in a circle about 1 1/2" wide starting at the end attached to the stem. Make another loop by bringing the free end of the pipe cleaner up behind the first loop and making a second loop. Make another loop the same way. To finish bend the end in towards the center of the flower. Glue a pin back onto the green stem of the flower.

Chenille Stem Flowers

Chenille stem Flowers Craft for KidsWhat you will need:

Chenille stems


How to Make Chenille Stem Flowers:

1. To make the stem and center of the flower wind three inches of one end of a Chenille stem into a ball.

2. To make the circle around the center of the flower cut two Chenille stems of different colors in half. Wind two halves of different colors together and then wind the stems around the ball on the end of stem shape.

3. To make the petals use another Chenille stem and fan fold it making 3/4" bends. Wind the two ends together to make the flower shape. Stick the petals on the stem shape and then bend the stem shape into a circle just below the petal shape to keep it all together.

Paper Towel Flower Craft for Kids

Paper Towel Flower CraftThese flowers are easy to make and inexpensive. They can be used to decorate for any holiday. Preschool children will even enjoy painting them with eye droppers.

What you will need:

Thick, heavy duty, white, square paper towels


Pretty Buttons

Gems or pompoms

Water color paints


How to Make Paper Towel Flower Craft:

1. Make sure your paper towel is square. Find the center of the paper towel by folding the paper towel in half and then in half the other way. Unfold the paper towel. The lines meet in the center.

2. Fold each corner in towards the center to form a new square. (See picture to the right.)

3.Then fold each new corner in towards the center again.(See picture to the right.)

4. Turn the folded paper towel over and fold the corners in towards the center again. Glue down the four points at the center. Place a button or something decorative in the center and glue it down.

5. To form the flower petals use your thumb to press in on one of the corners while reaching around to the back and pulling up and out on the pointed flap. Do this to all four corners. (See picture to the right.)

6. Then pull the four remaining corners on the back to form four more petals. (See picture to the right.)

7. Paint with water colors or eye droppers. (See picture to the right.)

Paper Flowers

What you will need:

Colored paper

Patterned paper such as origami paper, scrapbooking paper, and/or wrapping paper

Paper glue such as Elmer's Rubber Cement



Pompoms and other decorative items


paper flower craft 4How to Make Paper Flowers:

1. Print out the directions to make the Six-Petal Flowers (PDF Pattern) and the Eight-Petal Flowers (PDF Pattern).

2. Study the shapes and arrangements of the petals of different kinds of flowers and try to cut the petals from paper to match the flowers you have observed.

3. Cut paper into different sized squares from 3" x 3" to 9" x 9". Fold the paper and cut according to the directions. Overlap different shapes and sizes of flowers you have cut to make more complex flowers. Experiment with different color combinations.

4. When you are satisfied with your design, glue everything together using paper glue.

5. Embellish the flowers with button, sequins, glitter glue, etc.

Origami Flower Arrangement in a Paper Mache Vase

1. Origami Flowers Kit by Michael G. LaFoose - This kit includes the directions and origami paper you will need to make the flowers. (See the link at the right.)

2. Green Chenille Stems (Pipe cleaners)

3. Small box for the vase or cardboard

4. Different colors of tissue paper

5. White glue

How to make:

1. Make origami flowers according to the directions in the books or find directions online.

2. Put dabs of glue on the ends of your chenille stems. Poke a hole in the bottom of the flowers with the glued end of the chenille stems and insert the stems about 1/2 inch.

3. To make the vase tear different colors of tissue paper into about one-inch shapes. Cut the end off a small box or make your own from cardboard. Add some water to make white glue a little runny. Coat the outside of the box with the white glue mixture with a paint brush. Stick the tissue paper all of the box smoothing it out as you go. To finish coat the box again over the tissue paper layer and add more tissue paper shapes to cover any places where the cardboard shows through.
