Veggie
Tale Crafts for Kids
Bob
the Tomato Craft
What
you will need: Old panty hose, red paint,
paper, green felt, green chenille stem, glue, thread, and polyfil.
How to make:
1. Cut part of a leg off of your panty hose about 6" long.
2. Gather one end of the panty hose together. Thread a needle and
knot it. Stick the needle through the bunched up end of the panty
hose and then wind the thread around the end. Bring the needle through
the panty hose again and then cut off the needle and tie the two ends
of the thread together.
3. Turn the panty hose inside out. Stuff the panty hose with
polyfil.
4. Use the leaf pattern for Bob
the Tomato Bean Bags.
Cut the pattern from green felt and make a hole in the middle of the
leaf. (Problems Printing?)
5. Cut a chenille stem in half. Fold the chenille stem in half and
twist the ends around each other.
6. Bunch up the top of the panty hose to form the top of the tomato.
Put a little glue on the end of the stem and stick it inside the bunched
up panty hose. Use some thread to close the top just like you did
the bottom. Cut off any left over panty hose.
6. Stick the felt leaf over the stem and glue it down.
7. Paint the tomato with red paint. Just about any paint will work.
Watercolor paints worked well and so did kid's paint.
8. When the paint is dry pick out some eyes and mouths from the pattern for the Veggie Tale Balloons, cut them out, and glue them to the tomato. (Problems Printing?)

Veggie
Tales Balloon Craft
These
adorable balloons can be used to decorate for a Veggie Tale Party
or Decorating for the Veggie Tale VBS - This
craft is not recommended for children. They are intended to be made by
adults as decorations. Some types of balloons do not hold up well
when using rubber cement. Make sure you buy a good quality balloon.
What
you will need: tape, paper glue (rubber
cement), balloons, paper or fun foam and pattern for eyes and mouths,
black thread, black Sharpie (permanent marker).
How to make:
1. Print out the eyes and leaf pattern (Large file or small file) and eyes and mouths
(Large file or small file) onto white paper. You can cut out and glue the paper patterns onto
the balloons or trace the patterns onto white fun foam if you want
them to last longer. (Problems Printing?)
2. Blow up the balloons and tie. Look at the specific characters
below to see what balloons are needed. To tie the nose balloons, blow
up the small balloons all the way and let out most of the air. Then
tie the balloons and cut off the excess part of the balloon.
3. Make the tops of the balloons first, Bob's leaves, Laura's hair,
and Junior's green hair. Look at the specific characters for directions.
4. Glue on the eyes, nose, and mouth with rubber cement (There are
all different styles and they are all interchangeable, so pick whatever
eyes and mouths you like. This glue works very well on the balloons.
5. To finish tie a black thread to the top to hang up the balloons.
Bob
the Tomato - 1 big red balloon and 1 small round red balloon,
and green craft tissue paper. To attach the leaves on the top of his
head, cut out the pattern from green craft tissue. Wrinkle up
the very center of the leave and place it on the knot of the balloon
and then tie black thread around it to keep it on.
Jimmy
the Gourd - 1 big orange balloon, and 1 small round orange balloon,
black Sharpie, (permanent marker), Green Magicraft paper sheets or
craft tissue paper.
To
make Jimmy's stem, use the pattern to cut the piece out of Magic Nuudles
CORNstruction Paper, (these are sheets of fiber-like paper that adhere
to almost anything by just dipping them in water.) I found them
at "Learning is Fun."
If you don't want to buy this paper, you can make a paper mache glue
by adding water to white glue and dipping green craft tissue paper
into the mixture to form the stem.
Laura
the Carrot - 1 long orange balloon and 1 small round orange or
red balloon, 2 sheets of yellow craft tissue paper 20" x 26", thick
black yarn
To
make Laura's hair roll and scrunch up two sheets of yellow craft tissue
paper. Tie the tissue in the center with black yarn loosely.
Tie two more times on each side to form the pig tails. Glue the hair
onto the balloon using rubber cement.
Junior
Asparagus - 1 long green balloon (I used the animal sculpture
balloons, the very long skinny type that you twist and make animal
shapes) (You can make several characters out of one balloon)
and 1 small round green balloon and green craft Nuudles. (I bought
my Magic Nuudles at "Learning is Fun." Nuudles are similar to the corn starch packaging peanuts that dissolve
in water except they come in different colors. If you don't want to
buy nuudles you can use the packaging nuudles instead. When they are
dry just paint them green.
To
make Junior's hair dip the nuudles into a little bit of all the way
around water and press onto the top of Juniors head to make his hair.
Start from the bottom and work up to the top of his head. The nuudles
shrink and dissolve as they dry so you may have to add more nuudles
as they dry. The nuudles also get much darker when you wet them so
don't worry about their light color. After his hair is dry glue on
his eyes and nose. Use a permanent marker to draw on the mouth.

Junior Asparagus
Hat Holder Craft
What
you will need: Paint stick (you can probably
get these free any where they sell paint), small wooden block not
wider than the paint stick, 2 wooden eye shapes, 1 round wooden nose
shape, green, black, and white paint, paper, green crepe paper, glue
gun
How to make:
1. Paint the entire paint stick, the small wooden block, and the
small round nose green.
2. Paint the eye shapes white with a black dot for the irises.
When the green paint is dry glue the eyes and nose onto the green
stick as shown in the picture. Paint on Junior's mouth using white
and black paint.
3. Cut pieces of crepe paper into 3-inch squares. Wade them up into
balls. Glue on the crepe paper balls to form Junior's hair.
4. Glue the block onto the back of the paint stick and drill a hole
in the block at an angle so that you can hang the hat holder on a
nail on your wall.

Veggie
Tales Paper Weight Craft
What
you will need: Round, and oblong smooth rocks that lay fairly
flat on one side, red, green, black, and white paint
How to make:
1. Paint the entire rock the appropriate color. When the paint
is completely dry paint on the eyes, nose, mouth, and hair. If you
don't want to paint on the features, you can use the face
features (Large file or small file) from the Veggie Tale Balloon project and just reduce the size. (Problems Printing?)

Jerry
and Jimmy Gourd Craft
What
you will need: Gourds (you can grow your own or buy them at a
craft store) If you can't find real ones, you might be able
to find fake ones. Real ones work better because all the gourds
will have their own shape and personality.
How to make:
1. Paint the entire gourd using the appropriate color. When
the paint is completely dry paint on the eyes, nose, and mouth. If
you don't want to paint on the features, you can use the face
features from the Veggie Tale Balloon project and just reduce the size. (Problems Printing?)
