Dog Crafts and Activities For Kids
What you will need: Neon drinking straws, clear drying glue, cardboard, ruler, pencil, paper in matching neon colors, tape, and scissors. What to do: 1. Cut a piece of cardboard 8" x 8" and then measure in 2" on each side and cut out the 4" x 4" square in the middle of the cardboard. 2. Start at the left side of the frame and work to the right. Place glue all along the left edge and in about 2". Pull out the bendable part to make the straws as long as possible. Place the first straw at the left edge of the frame. Place another straw up against the first straw, but place it so that the bendable ridges are on the opposite sides of the frame. If you are using straws without the bendable part, you don't have to worry about this. Keep the straws even at the top of the frame. When the glue dries you can cut off the straws at the bottom of the frame. Keep placing straws all the way across, covering small sections of the frame with glue at a time. 3. While the frame dries you can print out the cut out the paw prints using the Paw Print Pattern. Print them on different colors of paper and cut them out leaving some color around the edges. 4. To finish glue the paw prints to the frame and tape a picture the to back. ©2008, Carolyn Warvel -* See Copyright Information

3. Glue the other two leg pieces to the front as shown in the picture. 4. To make the head cut a slit down the middle of a marshmallow on the flat side about 1 cm deep. Make another slit from the round side meeting the cut in the center as shown in the picture to the right. Glue the head onto the body as shown. 5. Cut a wedge shape for the tail from another marshmallow and glue to the back. 6. Cut ears from fun foam and glue to the head. This little dog is made a lot like the yarn bugs on Making Friends web site with a little extra added. What you will need: Black yarn, black, pink and red fun foam, 2 1/2" Styrofoam ball and 1/2 of a 1 1/2" Styrofoam ball, and tacky glue. 1. Print out the pattern. Cut the legs and arms and ear patterns from black fun foam or black poster board. Cut the inside of the ears and tongue from pink fun foam. Cut out the nose and eyes. You can use googly eyes instead of the paper eyes if you would like. 2. Cut one side of the 2 1/2" Styrofoam ball so that it has a flat area. Glue the flat side it to the center of the fun foam legs and arms. Cut the 1 1/2" Styrofoam ball in half. Glue 1 of the halves to the front of the 2 1/2" Styrofoam ball for the dog's muzzle. 3. Cut a 4" x 4" square from heavy cardboard like cardboard from a packaging box. Wind the black yarn around the cardboard square about 150 depending on the thickness of your yarn. Cut a length of yarn and stick it in between one side of the cardboard and the yarn that is wound around it. Tie the yarn on that side together. Cut the yarn apart on the other side in the middle. You will now have pompom. Lay the pompom flat so it is in a circle shape. Place a bit of glue in the middle of the large Styrofoam ball and place the flattened pompom over the ball. Spread the yarn out so it covers the whole ball. 4. Cut a 2" x 2" square from heavy cardboard. Wind the yarn around the square about 20 times. Tie and cut the yarn the same as you did for the 4" x 4" square. 5. Glue the nose onto the middle of the yarn where you tied it. Glue the tongue onto the back in the middle as shown in the picture. Glue the whole thing onto the front of the dog over the small Styrofoam ball. 6. Glue the inside of the ear to the outside and glue them onto the dog. Glue on googly eyes or cut some eyes from paper and glue them on. ©2007, Carolyn Warvel -* See Copyright Information

Glue them to the front sides of lunch bags. Make dog treats or dog toys for your dogs and place them inside the bags. Roll down the top of the bags and staple them closed. Add a bow. 2. You can get one dog plus two extra legs from 3.5" of wood. 2. The dogs body is 1.5" x 2.5", the head is 1.5" x 1.5". Once you cut out the head cut two wedges from each side, use these for the tail. You will have to cut the end of the tail at an angle so that is can be glued to the body at an angle. 3. You will also need two small teardrop shapes for the ears, 1/2 of a small circle for the nose and 1/2 of a small oval for the tongue. 4. You can glue them all together for the children or let them glue them with tacky glue. 5. Paint with acrylic paints. They may also want to use googly eyes instead of painting the eyes on. "Set a watch, O Lord, before my mouth; keep the door of my lips." Psalm 141:3 Bible verse activity sheet available on The Resource Room. In class have your children color the picture of the watchdog and cut out the bones and glue the bones in the appropriate place. You can also buy small dog biscuits and have your children glue a few of them to their papers with flour and water paste. They can give the biscuits to their dogs at home as a treat. Tell your children that when they give their dogs a treat, they should try to remember to thank God for giving them a dog (a watchdog, if their dog is one) and to ask God to help them to be a watchdog over what they say this week. To make flour and water paste just add a small amount of water to a quarter cup of flour. Add enough water to make it sticky but not watery. If you don't want to use real dog biscuits you can make and use dog bone-shaped cookies that the children can eat themselves.
