The Bible is filled with stories about significant people and events, such as the creation of the world and God sending His only Son to save humanity from sin. However, we often overlook the important women in the Bible and their roles in God's plan. Mother's Day is an excellent opportunity to reflect on how these mothers may have felt.
In this lesson, children are introduced to five mothers who played crucial roles in biblical history. Through role-play, games, and printable displays, children will explore how these mothers influenced their children and contributed to their success. Additionally, they will have the chance to create an adorable Mother's Day gift for their loved ones to express their appreciation.
The following crafts and activities come from the Bible lesson "Mothers Are Important Too" on The Resource Room, a members-only site for Sunday school teachers and homeschool parents. It is also available as an instant download. This lesson is appropriate for 4th and 5th grade.
Mother's Are Important Too Bible Lesson Display

This lesson uses a series of pictures featuring five mothers, along with sentence cards that describe each mother. The mothers included are Eve, Hannah, Elizabeth, Rebekah, and Mary. Before the class, print out the pictures and staple them to the bulletin board.
During the class, children will take turns selecting a sentence card, reading it aloud, and placing it under the corresponding picture. As they do this, encourage the children to think about and share how they believe each mother might have felt in the described situation.
(Note: The pictures are available in both color and black and white, making them suitable for coloring sheets if desired.)

Act Out Bible Stories
The teacher assigns groups of children Bible references about different mothers. The children read the stories and then act out the story from the mother's perspective for their classmates.
"Who Am I?" Game
The teacher or a student reads short paragraphs written from the Bible mother's perspective and the students try to guess who the paragraph is describing.
