Teaching Concept: Our words have the power to wound, much like poison, if we fail to master them. It’s essential that we learn to control what we say, for our speech can deeply affect those around us.

Make a Bulldog Treat Bag
Instruct the children to color labels featuring a picture of a bulldog and Bible verse from James 3:7-8, and and then glue these labels to paper lunch bags to create distinct treat bags. Provide each student with animal crackers or cookies to place inside their bags. Encourage them to take them home, and explain that each time their parents allow them to have a cookie from the bag, they should read the Bible verse on the front. This practice will serve as a meaningful reminder to promote the importance of self-control and thoughtful communication.
To complete this craft, you will need lunch-sized paper bags, crayons or colored pencils, paper glue, and printer paper.

Review the Watchdog Promise Game and Learning Activity
1. Before class, print out the dog bookmarks and cut them out.(Patterns are available in both NIV and KJV and black & white and colored patterns.)
2. Review the Watchdog Promise with your students and then have them sit in a circle. Show them the dog bookmarks. They will pretend to "tame the dogs" by passing the bookmarks around the circle. Each time a child passes a bookmark, they should also say a word from the promise.
3. Start by giving the child on your right a bookmark and saying the first word of the promise. If you have younger children, you can use only the last two lines of the promise. That child should then pass the bookmark to the child on their right and repeat the same word.
4. Continue this process, introducing new words and bookmarks as you go around the circle. All the children should be passing bookmarks and saying the words simultaneously. Keep playing until all the words have been repeated by all the students and all the bookmarks have been returned to you.
5. To conclude, give each child a bookmark. If you have older children, you can provide them with blank bookmarks and have them write the promise on their bookmarks.

I will watch my ways and the words I say

Play "Tame the Animal" Game
Before class, gather stuffed animals or use the dog bookmarks (see above). Print out enough colored patterns so you have at least one for each child in your class.
In class, show your children the stuffed animals or dog bookmarks and tell them that they will be helping you "tame" the animals (dogs) by answering questions about taming the tongue. If they answer correctly, they get to keep the animal or a bookmark.
