Books of the Bible Dominoes
Ignite your students' enthusiasm for the Books of the Bible with this engaging Domino-style game! Mastering the names of the Bible books is a crucial first step in helping them remember the order and understand the Bible's structure.
Begin by introducing your children to the Bible index, emphasizing that the Bible is made up of 66 books - 39 in the Old Testament and 27 in the New Testament. This foundational knowledge sets the stage for an exciting learning experience.
In the game, children will match the shapes of the dominoes, linking them by the first or last letters of the book names. Once a domino shape is placed, the player reads the words on the domino shape he has placed. If you have older children, challenge them to read all the words on the dominoes each time they place a domino and identify whether each book belongs to the Old or New Testament.
Beyond just matching, this game can be a fantastic tool for students to arrange the books in order or classify them by Testament. With this interactive approach, you’ll foster a deeper connection to the Bible while making learning an enjoyable and memorable adventure!
You can find complete directions and printable dominoes for all 66 books of the Bible on The Resource Room.

1. Pass the Card Four-in-a-Row Books of the Bible Review Game
1. Distribute seven cards to each player. Players should arrange their cards in the correct numerical order. Each card is numbered to make it easier to use.
2. When you say "Pass," each player should pass one card from their hand to the player on their right.
3. Continue playing until one player collects four cards in sequential order.
4. When a player collects four in a row, they are declared the winner of that hand! They have the honor of reading their cards aloud, reinforcing their learning, before shuffling the deck to kick off another thrilling round.
5. To amp up the thrill, place plastic spoons in the center—one less than the number of players. As soon as someone grabs four cards in a row, they should reach for a spoon. The rush is on! Everyone else must follow suit to grab the remaining spoons. The player who fails to get a spoon is out. Keep the game going until only one champion remains!
2. "Place the Books in Order" Race
1. Print out two sets of cards.
2. Divide your students into two teams and give them a set of cards. Tell them to distribute them evenly to their teammates.
3. On the word "Go," the teams should try to place their cards in order as fast as they can. Encourage the teams to let every member participate.
4. The team that finishes first should read all the cards to see if they placed them correctly. If they aren't correct, tell them where they made a mistake and then start the game again.
3. Grab the Book of the Bible Card Game
Randomly place all the books-of-the-Bible cards face up in the center of the table so that all the players can reach most of the cards.
Shout out one of the books of the Bible and see who can grab the card first. When a player nabs a card, he should start a line of cards that will have the cards in order. Each player who gets a card adds it to the line of cards, keeping them in order. They may have to move some cards down to fit them all in. Keep playing until all the cards are in order.
